Indians celebrate R-Day abroad
BEIJING, JAN. 26. Indians abroad celebrated the country's 51st
republic day today by unfurling the tricolour and singing the
national anthem and patriotic songs, with the heads of missions
reading out the message of the President, Mr. K.R. Narayanan.
In Beijing, the Indian Ambassador, Mr. V.K. Nambiar, led the main
celebration function in the embassy compound.
In Shanghai, China's financial capital, the Indian community took
a day off to attend the function organised by the Consulate
General of India.
Indians in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region celebrated
the day at a function at the residence of the Consul General, Ms.
Veena Sikri, who read out the President's message.
In Tokyo, several Indians gathered at the country's embassy there
to celebrate the day with the Ambassador, Mr. Siddharth Singh,
presiding over the main function and reading out Mr. Narayanan's
message.
Indians in Osaka and Kobe assembled at the Indian Consulate
General in Osaka to celebrate the day.
The Indian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Deb Mukherji, held the
main function at the Embassy in Dhaka where hundreds of Indians
participated.
