Award for MLA at R-Day celebrations in Pondy

PONDICHERRY, JAN.26 The Lieutenant Governor, Dr Rajani Rai, gave
away an award to the Yanam MLA, Mr.Malladi Krishna Rao
(independent), during the Republic Day celebrations here today.
After unfurling the Tricolour, inspecting a guard of honour and
releasing a new paddy variety Subramania Bharathi (PY 6),
developed by Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Krishi Vigyan Kendra, she
handed a pair of silver `kuthuvilakku,' a gold medal and `the
Best MLA award' to Mr Malladi Krishna Rao.
This is the first time that an MLA was honoured at a ceremonial
function. The award was in recogniton of his dedicated services
towards the Yanam people, contributions as Chairman of
Pondicherry Housing Board, relief measures to cyclone victims.
The Lt Governor released the new paddy variety and the first
bunch of the paddy was received by the Chief Minister, Mr R V
Janakiraman.
Dr Rajani Rai presented President's police medals for meritorious
services to Mr.P.R.Ramachandran (Inspector of Police)
Mr.A.F.Benjamin (Subinspector-band master) and President's Home
Guards and civil defence medals were also presented to
Mr.S.Victor and Mr.M.Gabriel.
The Lt Governor's police medals for meritorious services were
presented to Assistant Sub Inspector Mr.Kali Sundararasu and Head
constable Mr.R.Perumal.
Nine schools - Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School, Seventh
Day Adventist HSS, Nirmala Ranee Girls HSS, Amalorpavam HSS,
Servite English High School, Immaculate Heart of Mary's Girs HS
(Ariankuppam), St Joseph Girls HS, St Patrick's HSS and
Government HS Thattanchavady) - were awarded jointly the Chief
Miniter's Rolling Trophy for their outstanding achievement of
cent per cent passes in the school final examination.
The Education Minister's trophy for second best institution was
presented to Immaculate Heart of Mary`s Girls HSS. Among the
government Higher Secondary Schools the Education Minister's
rolling trophy was handed to Tiruvalluvar Government Girls HSS
for its best performance in the public examination.
Pondicherry University's Vice-Chancellor trophy for best
performance in the HSC examinations was handed jointly to Petit
Seminaire HSS, St Joseph of Cluny Girls HSS, Immaculate Heart of
Mary's Girls HSS, St Patrick's HSS and Nirmala Ranee Girls HSS in
view of their cent percent pass record in the public examination.
The same schools bagged jointly the Archbishop`s rolling trophy
for their best results in the examinations.
The Lion Professor Ambady Narayanan Rolling trophy went to
Veeramamunivar Government Boys High School for its all- round
performance in academic and extra curricular activities.
The Lt Governor presented cash incentive of Rs 5000 to each of
the two couples under a scheme of Department of Social Welfare to
encourage marriages between disabled and normal persons.
Ten health workers were presented cash awards for their best
performance while prizes and certificates were presented to
children proficient in management of traffic.
Lt Governor took salute at march past presented by various
contingents of police, Home guards, scouts and guides, school
children, NCC, and children of the Observation Home.
Cultural programmes were also presented by school children.
Tableaux presentation by several departments formed part of the
highlights of the celebrations.
Chief Secretary Mr T T Joseph announced that President gold medal
for meritorious performance by Inspector of Police Mr.Lakshaprabu
on the occasion.
Among those who witnessed the Republic Day celebrations included
Chief Minister Mr R V Janankiraman, Education Minister Mr S P
Sivakumar, legislators belonging to the TMC, PMK, Janata Dal (U),
Rajya Sabha member Mr C P Tirunavukarasu, Inspector General of
Police Mr J P Singh, Senior Superintendents Mr.Anandh Mohan and
Dr M Ponnayyan, besides officers, tyagis, representatives of some
French institutions and family members of the Lt Governor.
Deputy Speaker Mr M Kandasamy unfurled the National Flag later
inside the premises of the Assembly in the presence of the Chief
Minister and MLAs.
Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University Dr V T Patil presented
cash award of Rs 200 to each of the two security guards in the
University in recognition of their dedicated services to protect
the property at the Republic Day celebrations in the University
campus.
