Suraiya's party not to contest now
By Our Staff Reporter
KOCHI, AUG. 21. The Lok Seva Party, formed a couple of months
ago, has not prepared for fielding candidates in the elections
for the local bodies, according to the party chief, Ms. Kamala
Suraiya.
Addressing presspersons at her residence here today, Ms. Suraiya
said her party members, all aged below 30 years, are now
undergoing an "emotional training". However, the party would
support candidates with proven commitment for the cause of
society, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Ms. Suraiya also suggested promoting political parties fielding
youth, women and retired officials with good track records and
also checking those with allegations of corruption against them
from contesting.
She outlined the future programmes of her party as registration
and a State convention in September, conventions in all the
districts and Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore before October
15, announcing the policy and forming State Committee and a
`vahana pracharana yatra' across the State on November.
The media interaction was a first step in the works of the party
that proved the sceptics wrong, she said.
The manifesto of the Lok Seva Party outlines a long list of
objectives that include spreading the message of love and
knowledge, building a new world based on love and secularism,
providing help to those afflicted by flood, drought, epidemics,
famine and accidents, bringing women and students to the
forefront, promoting arts, sports and literature and finally,
protesting the hostile policy of Governments.
Ms. Suraiya, in true spirit of her party's avowed policies, also
volunteered to lead a delegation of cultural personalities, legal
experts and religious heads to work out the release of the cine
actor, Mr. Rajkumar.
