Minister injured in dam site violence
KEVADIYA (GUJARAT), OCT. 31. Gujarat's Minister of State for
Education, Mr.Bipin Shah, was today injured and four cars
belonging to Ministers were set on fire by suspected Narmada
Bachao Andolan activists near the Sardar Sarovar dam here.
The activists, hurled stones and resorted to arson at Garudeshwar
in Narmada district. A violent crowd went on the rampage setting
afire four cars belonging to Gujarat ministers, a report from
Ahmedabad said.
Mr.Shah sustained injuries and was rushed to a Government
hospital at Rajpipla in Narmada district. He was discharged late
tonight, official sources said.
The incident took place soon after the Union Home Minister, Mr.
L. K. Advani, inaugurated work on the controversial Sardar
Sarovar project.
