Cong. seeks action against Ministers facing graft charges

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, DEC. 1. The Congress-I has demanded that the Chief Minister, Mr.N.Chandrababu Naidu, should "purge his Cabinet" of members against whom serious corruption charges were levelled.

At a press conference, the APCC-I official spokespersons, Mr.K.Rosaiah and Mr.K.Kesava Rao, contended that graft charges of a grave nature appeared in the media against some of the Ministers, which cannot be brushed aside lightly.

They said the Chief Minister was quoted in these reports as having warned the Ministers "to mend their ways in the next six months or face the consequences".

Mr.Rosaiah said it was not enough if Mr.Chandrababu Naidu reprimands the "guilty" Ministers. He should take action against them immediately as he proclaimed to have given a clean Government.

The Congress-I leaders said they had "authentic" information about some officers in the Chief Minister's Office leaking contents of the Chief Minister's warning to his Ministers to the Press. It was not a matter to be settled between the Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues. Mr.Naidu owed an explanation to the people, Mr.Rosaiah said.

Standoff in OU

The Congress-I leaders also urged the Government to intervene and resolve the standoff between the Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University and the Teachers Association which was affecting the academic careers of the students.
