Dance and world music
JEFFERY AND Co. are back again with a sequel to their first
presentation, Dance!
Helpfully named Dance - 2!, the presentation is being fine-tuned
for a mid-January premiere in Chennai, nearly a year after their
initial offering.
The backdrop is Egypt and the dance and music incorporate, far
too many elements spanning a world of music styles - Indian
classical, Latino, Tap, Jazz, Power and Ballroom.
Dance! - A celebration of the millennium spirit - was the first
production of the Chennai dance school, The Hot Shoe Dance
Company and was a timeless story of love and passion for life set
against a stormy backdrop of world history. Dance! too
incorporates bits and pieces of world music - from Latino Dance,
Tap, Jazz, Jazz Ballet, Power and Ballroom styles - to bring its
plot to life.
Dance - 2! represents a coming together of some of the best
artistic and professional talent in the city for a single
production, says Jeffery. He promises that the Hot Shoe
production will redefine the entertainment standards here. There
are as many as 89 dancers and assisting them will be a group of
sound and light specialists and musicians.
Jeffery, a veteran of over 125 productions, is a qualified ballet
instructor, who learnt a lot from his association with the
`Victorian Dance Company,' of Australia.
Jeffery says that the company's magnum production will be on view
at the Music Academy on January 15, at 3 p.m. and later, at 7
p.m.
