Manjolai murder case: wife of deceased moves H.C.

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JAN. 9. The wife of the deceased in the ``Manjolai murder case'' has moved the Madras High Court seeking to implead herself in a petition filed by the Puthiya Tamilagam leader, Dr. K. Krishnasamy in connection with the same case.

Dr. Krishnasamy, who is accused as a conspirator in the murder case has moved the High Court, seeking to quash the proceedings against him in the trial court.

A staffer in the Manjolai tea estate, owned by Bombay Burma Trading Corporation, Anthonymuthu was allegedly done to death on 25-10- 1998. Along with about a dozen others, the PT leader has been arrayed as an accused in the murder, on conspiracy charges. Recently, he filed a petition before the High Court, seeking to quash the proceedings against him in the trial court at Ambasamudram, Tirunelveli.

In her application, Ms. Anthonyammal, wife of the slain tea estate staffer, said she was the complainant and the most aggrieved person as her husband had been done to death. She was the person who had set the law in motion. The investigators had registered a case on her complaint and filed the chargesheet. She submitted that Dr. Krishnasamy had been ``the brain behind the entire episode, who had instigated the workers of Manjolai estate and created unrest there''.

She said the question of conspiracy could not be gone into by the High Court. It was a matter for trial and the prosecution could not be stifled from adducing evidence during trial. Ms. Anthonyammal said she should be heard and hence should be allowed to implead herself in the issue.
