No privatisation: Mamata
The Railways would not be privatised, Ms. Mamata Banerjee told the Lok Sabha today while presenting the Railway Budget.

Highlights of Railway Budget
The following are the highlights of the Railway Budget for 2001-02 tabled in Parliament today: No increase in passenger fares of any class or category of trains. Freight rates go up by three per cent other than essential commodities and a few select items. No increase in the freight rates for essential commodities like sugar, salt, grains and pulses, edible oils, kerosene, fruits and vegetables, LPG. A two per cent increase in freight rates for coal and iron and steel.

Petroleum Ministry to study impact
The Petroleum Minister, Mr. Ram Naik, today said his Ministry would study the impact of the hike in freight charges proposed in the Railway Budget on petro products before taking a decision on whether to pass the burden onto the consumers or not.

Army to stop operations
