Voters deleted from rolls can file claim

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MARCH 3. Mr. B. Ramasamy, Joint Chief Electoral Officer of Pondicherry said in a communication here today that the election department has now permitted voters whose names had been deleted for certain reasons to file claim for inclusion in Form 6 for enrolment in the lists of voters in the Union Territory.

The election department was informed that during the door-to- door verification of voters to ascertain the existing electoral rolls, the names of a number of voters had been deleted because of their shifting of their residences without intimating the election department.

The deletion of names of voters because of allocation of new door numbers to houses by the local bodies or where the voters were away from their residences at time of verification would also be enabled to have their names included or enrolled. These voters can directly approach the Electoral Registration Officer of the respective constituency and submit the Form 6 with all relevant details on or before March 10.

Mr. Ramasamy said voters should appear in person along with proof of identification and details of residence. No one would be permitted to present applications in bulk and none except the applicant concerned should present the forms. Appropriate decision would be taken in respect of these applications by the officers concerned on merits after due verification and enquiry.
