Union Minister's assurance to Pondy Govt.

PONDICHERRY, MARCH 26. Mr. Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, Union Minister of
State for Home Affairs, has assured that the Central Government
would put Pondicherry on the tourism map.
Declaring open Rs 1.42 crore administrative building of the Rajiv
Gandhi Veterinary College and Animal Sciences at Kurumbapet near
here today, Mr. Rao said he was pleased with the tranquil
environment in Pondicherry. He also complimented the progress
made by the Union Territory in the field of literacy and
promotion of educational activities.
He called upon the students of the veterinary college to put in
hard work and serve the mute animals and also enrich their
skills.
Lt Governor, Dr. Rajani Rai, who presided, said the college had
been set up in rural surroundings and teaching hospital had also
been established in the erstwhile veterinary dispensary campus of
Animal Husbandry department. Promotion of veterinary education
occupied a crucial place in the whole gamut of activities
intended for rural development, she said.
The Chief Minister, Mr P Shanmugham, referred to the progress
made by Pondicherry during last one year. The Cooperation
Minister, Mr C. Jayakumar, Mr. C. P. Tirunavukarasu MP, Mr. K.
Natarajan MLA, Chief Secretary, Mr. T. T. Joseph, the Dean of the
college, Dr. G. Butchiah, and Development Commissioner, Dr. R.
Padmanabhan, were among those who spoke.
