Another suitcase bomb seized

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, APRIL 1. Close on the heels of seizure of a suitcase bomb intended to kill the Penukonda legislator, Mr. Paritala Ravindra, and later, one Mr. Parthasarathi Reddy, the main accused in the murder of Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's father, Y.S.Raja Reddy, the Anantapur police have seized one more suitcase bomb. Three persons have been arrested in the case.

The second bomb was fabricated allegedly on behalf of Mr. G. Nagaraju, former chairperson of the Dharmavaram Municipality (TDP) and close follower of Mr. Ravindra, to kill one Qasim, another close associate of Mr. Ravindra. The bomb was concealed in the horticulture fields of another TDP man, Mr. Kuntimaddi Subramaniam, in Dharmavaram rural mandal.

Giving details to newspersons here on Sunday, the SP, Mrs. Anjana Sinha, said that they could get to the second suitcase bomb as part of their continuing investigation into the first suitcase bomb case. The arrested in the second case were Nellore Prasad (32), Kuntimaddi Subramanyam (54) and Yerrakunta Kesava Reddy - all residents of Dharmavaram town. They were held on Saturday. Police were on the look out for five more accused in the second case - Mr. Nagaraju, Ramachandra Reddy, Narendra Reddy, Balija Ramakrishna and Erikala Narayana.

The SP said both suitcase bombs were assembled in the residence of one Raja Reddy (of Dharmavaram), another accused at large in the first case, at Chinthal in Hyderabad prior to the Assembly elections in 1999. The technical know-how and the circuits of the two bombs were drawn by Vasudeva Reddy and Pavan Kumar Reddy, both in jail along with Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Soori of Maddelacheruvu in the Jubilee Hills car bomb blast case. She said the second bomb was made with better precision than the first one.

The suitcase bombs were fabricated and assembled by Narendra Reddy, Nellore Prasad, Balija Ramakrishna, Seshu and Erikala Narayana. During the fabrication of the first bomb Raja Reddy, a common friend of Soori and Giriraju Nagaraju, came in contact with the bomb-makers and requested them to make another for Mr. Nagaraju, who was civic chief then.

Investigation had revealed that Nagaraju had decided to eliminate Qasim, brother of the then and present vice chairperson of the Dharmavaram Municipality, Shaikshah Vali, another close associate of Mr. Ravindra.

Accordingly, Kuntimaddi Subramanyam gave Rs. 30,000 to Yerrakunta Kesava Reddy and he, in turn, handed over Rs. 15,000 and raw material to Raja Reddy for assembling the suitcase bomb. Raja Reddy gave the amount and the material to Narendra Reddy and his associates.

After assembling, the bomb was handed over to Nagaraju by Raja Reddy at the former's residence in Dharmavaram. The bomb was planted three-four times to kill Qasim.

Meanwhile, Qasim was killed by Chinna Sudarshan of the Red Star.
