U.S. tactics failing
Sir, - I was surprised to read the letter by Capt. Jacob K.
Chakko (April 11). Anybody following the events following the
mid-air collision can understand that the U.S. is acting like a
bully and China is reacting with great restraint and in a
civilised manner. America tried to browbeat China into releasing
the crew of its spy plane.
When China reacted in an unprovoked manner, the U.S. was forced
to rethink its strategy. As the Chinese Ambassador remarked, the
incident was akin to somebody driving in front of your house day
in and day out, damaging a car parked in front of the house,
killing the person in the car and then arguing that the inmates
cannot take any action.
Capt. Chakko floats a wild theory that China orchestrated the
whole incident. Even the American media did not get this great
idea.
