Hyderabad Nizam's money in Pak. account
NEW DELHI, APRIL 20. An amount of £ 24,454,350.18 belonging
to the erstwhile Nizam of Hyderabad's Government is lying in a
London bank account of a former Pakistan High Commissioner to
Britain.
Initially, a sum of &popund; 1,007,940.09 was maintained in an
account of National Westminster Bank of London in September 1948
in the name of Nizam's Government, the Minister of State for
Finance, Mr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, said in the Lok Sabha in a
written reply.
This amount, he said, was transferred to an account in the name
of the then High Commissioner of Pakistan on the instructions of
erstwhile Nizam's Finance Minister. The funds currently amounted
to £ 24,454,350.18.
India had made several attempts with the Pakistan Government, the
late Nizam of Hyderabad and his legal heirs to resolve the issue
and the efforts were continuing, he said.
