Govt. confirms decision to rename Allahabad

LUCKNOW,APRIL 20. Yielding to the pressure exerted by the forces of Hindutva the Uttar Pradesh Government today decided to rename Allahabad as Prayagraj.

The Chief Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh, talking to newspersons here said that the decision taken at a Cabinet meeting today would soon be communicated to the Union Government for further action.

The demand to rename Allahabad was reiterated at a recent meeting at Lucknow which was organised by the BJP leaders to seek the blessings of Hindu saints on the successful conclusion of the Kumbh fair earlier this year.The Chief Minister had immediately announced acceptance of the demand and today's cabinet decision only confirmed that.
