Bail for Mansoor Ali Khan

CHENNAI, APRIL 25. Film actor Mansoor Ali Khan, convicted in a
rape case and awarded a 7-year jail term on March 27, was granted
bail by the Madras High Court today.
When the petitioner approached it for bail on March 23, Mr.
Justice Malai. Subramanian asked the actor's counsel to first
deposit a fine amount of Rs. 3.25 lakhs with the trial court.
Today, counsel said the fine amount had been deposited with the
Principal Sessions Court.
The Judge said the petitioner could be released on bail on his
executing a personal bond for Rs. 50,000, besides two sureties of
a like sum each.
Mansoor Ali Khan was accused raping on Ms. Sneha Sharma at a
Vadapalani hotel here on December 8. 1996. However, the case was
filed against him nearly 15 months after the incident, after Ms.
Sharma had a child by him. On March 27, the Principal Sessions
Judge, Mr. S. Ashok Kumar, found him guilty under Section 376(1)
IPC and Section 417 (cheating). He was awarded the seven-year
rigorous imprisonment, besides the fine of Rs. 3.25 lakhs ``for
maintenance of herself and the child''.
