Forces redeployment may hit polls, says CM
Guwahati, April 25. (PTI): Assam Chief Minister P K Mahanta today
expressed apprehension that the redeployment of security forces
from within the State on the Assam-Bangladesh border following
the boundary clashes between BSF and BDR could affect the conduct
of the Assembly election.
Asked by reporters at a press conference here if the redeployment
of security forces from within the State to the international
boundary following the attacks there by BDR could have an impact
on the polls, Mahanta said, ``it can create trouble''.
Security forces available for the polls were not sufficient, he
said. The ULFA had begun threatening the AGP members in Nalbari
and Bongaigaon districts and served notices on them to abstain
from the polls, he said.
The Government had information of some of the AGP contestants
being targeted by the extremist outfits.
