Working to a plan in Anna Nagar

THERE IS so much of government for the average city dweller, that often, he does not know whom to approach. Bulging telephone directories have tens of thousands of numbers, and a lot of time is spent picking out the right official and number. But Anna Nagar has always been different.

The Exnora Club of Anna Nagar with the support of Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) has brought out the `Anna Nagar Civic Guide', a ready-reckoner with vital information, including the procedures to get the grievances addressed, on Chennai Corporation (solid waste/roads/storm water drains, health- sanitation/malaria, street lighting, parks and playfields), Metrowater, TNEB, BSNL Chennai Telephones (North Peripheral), Chennai Police (Anna District), besides the forest, agriculture and horticulture department.

Says Mr. V. Hariharan, Coordination Group Chairman of Exnora Club of Anna Nagar, ``the guide is dedicated to the International Year of Volunteers (2001) and is a first for Chennai''.

Credited with publishing the Anna Nagar Guide Book, with detailed map, a few years ago, the civic booklet is another attempt of the Club to ``disseminate information of value''.

BPCL has sponsored it as a good corporate citizen. The civic guide has valuable information on safe cooking habits and conservation tips for kitchen as well. Priced at Rs. 10 each, it is found on shelves at select departmental shops and showrooms.
