Poster issue: UDF demands special observer for poll
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 5. The UDF candidate for the
Thiruvananthapuram North constituency, Mr. K. Mohan Kumar, has
appealed to the Election Commission to appoint a special observer
in the constituency to check the misuse of power by the LDF
candidate, Mr. M. Vijayakumar.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Mohan Kumar
alleged that the LDF candidate, Mr. M. Vijayakumar, was misusing
his powers for winning the election. The speaker's demand for
action against the RDO for having seized his propaganda materials
itself is a clear indication that he is involved in malpractice,
Mr. Mohan Kumar said.
Though Mr. Vijayakumar had stated that the posters were printed
at a private press, the press has not been functioning for the
past four years. This proves that he has misused the Government
machinery, the UDF candidate pointed out.
Mr. Mohan Kumar demanded the suspension of the managing director
of the Audio Visual Reprographic Centre and prosecution of Mr.
Vijayakumar in the wake of the alleged irregularities.
The UDF candidate has alleged that the District Collector was
trying to protect Mr. Vijayakumar. He urged the State Election
Commissioner to intervene in this matter.
The Congress leader, Mr. T. Saratchandraprasad, also attended
the press conference.
