Zardari's associate released on bail
NEW DELHI, MAY 17.A close associate of Ms. Benazir Bhutto's
husband, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, was today released on bail by a
city court 13 days after he was arrested by the immigration
authorities on the Interpol look out notice against him.
The Additional CMM, Mr. V. K. Maheswari, ordered release of Mr.
Syed Tahir Hussain, who was chargesheeted by the Pakistan's FIB
in a major cheating case, on a personal bond of Rs.5 lakhs with
two local sureties of the like amount.
The court also put stringent conditions including appearance
before the court on every working day and not to leave Delhi
without its prior permission.
After being produced before the court, defence lawyers had said
Mr. Hussain had left for Dubai before the chargesheet was filed
and the Pakistan government had entered into an understanding
with him on suspension of the LOC, a copy of which was also
forwarded to him. They said, though Pakistani government had not
suspended the LOC, it had not requested the Indian government to
detain him for the purpose of extradition and in anticipation of
an extradition request, a person could not be detained.
