By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, MAY 17. The Minister for Transport, Mr. C. R. Sageer
Ahmed, today said the State Government had set up four task
forces to check pollution by vehicles in the City.
He told presspersons here that the task forces would comprise
officers drawn from the Traffic Police, Transport Department and
Food and Civil Supplies Department. They would conduct surprise
checks and book drivers of vehicles with exhaust emission levels
above the specified norm.
He said task forces to curb pollution by vehicles would be set up
in Mysore, Hubli and Belgaum as well.
On reports that some petrol bunks were selling re- cycled oil,
the minister said department officials on Wednesday conducted
raids on 88 petrol bunks and booked five cases for the alleged
sale of re-cycled oil. There were reports that some outlets on
the outskirts of the City were selling re-cycled oil and
instructions had been given to check such sales. Mr. Ahmed said
action would be taken against drivers of vehicles causing noise
pollution. Vehicles with shrill horns would be seized.
