Mani, PMK Legislature Party leader
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDALORE, MAY 17. The PMK State president, Mr. G. K. Mani, who
was re-elected by a margin of 31,754 votes from Pennagaram, was
elected Leader of the PMK Legislature Party, according to a
resolution adopted at the executive meeting at Thailapuram
village on the Pondicherry- Tindivanam sector.
The resolution said that Mr. I. Ganesan, elected from Edapadi,
would be Deputy Leader and Mr. J. Guru alias Gurunathan
(Andimadam) party whip.
Addressing the meeting, founder, Dr. S. Ramadoss, described the
party's victory as an `excellent achievement' in Tamil Nadu. He
noted with pride that the party won 20 of the 27 seats it
contested. Even while losing seats, the margin was narrow,
especially in two constituencies.
He said that the State witnessed `political dawn' on February 6,
when he took a bold decision to join hands with the AIADMK.
``Till February 5, there was political pessimism throughout Tamil
Nadu''. The AIADMK cadres gained strength from the PMK ``which
has made the first move on alliance in the State political
scenario on the eve of election'', he said.
Dr. Ramadoss advised the winners to strive to improve the lot of
the masses, especially the economically and socially depressed
people. ``Adopt simplicity and do not try to dupe the voters
through any extravaganza'', he said.
Stressing the need for starting party journal, Dr. Ramadoss said
the Dravidian leaders such as Annadurai had propagated ideologies
through journals. Hence, the PMK will launch a daily, `Tamizh
Osai.
After administering an `oath' to the winners, he said though the
pledge would have caused embarrassment to a few, it was
inevitable.
The party will organise its annual celebration in Mahabalipuram
within a fortnight, he said, adding that party MLAs would be
trained in book-keeping.
Saying that he would tour the 20 constituencies in June and July,
Dr. Ramadoss advised the MLAs to celebrate the victory in every
ward in the constituencies.
