The last of the summer games?
A VERITABLE feast awaits children in what is left of this summer
- at the `Crossword' book centre at Shoppers Stop on Harrington
Road, Chetput.
The shop has put together a variety of fun-events, apart from a
regular `toy mela'. The programme for the last-half of this
summer, was inaugurated by actress Kushboo, last Thursday, in
which a large number of children participated.
Kushboo, who cut a ribbon to mark the inauguration, was at her
bubbly best with the children totting around and the parents and
curious on-lookers who had drifted in from their serious shopping
abodes on the many floors that dot the shopping mall.
``It is a great idea to organise something like this, exclusively
for children, '' says Kushboo, who is among the stars spotted off
and on at Crossword.
Though the place is about books there were not too many people
looking at the information-filled shelves now. There were far too
many kids around; far too many toys, to concentrate on anything
else. At least for now.
The fortnight-long programme began with kids' contests. On the
inaugural day, the contest was open for children in the age group
of 6-8, the second day for 3-5 and the third day, for children of
all ages.
If you are familiar with the hit one-minute game show, aired on
Zee TV - a similar one has been planned for the children on May
24, followed by a mono-act competition for the kids in the age
group of 3-5 years on May 25.
If you are a word-guzzler, then `Word Hunting' is the programme
for you. The participants will have to search for as many words
as possible out of a given `Maze'. Each participant will be given
an individual list of words. The programme, meant for children
between 6-9 years, is slated for May 28.
Yet another programme to be held on the same day is `Word
Building', where each participant will be given a word out of
which he/she has to form as many three/four letter words as
possible.
How to make dolls and improve the doll-making skills of children?
A `doll-making workshop' for children of 9 years and above will
be held on May 29. The next in the agenda is the extempore
competition for kids, aged between three to five years.
To coincide with the `World No Tobacco Day' on May 31, the
bookshop will organise an `enactment' on the harmful effects of
using tobacco. Poster-making, on the theme `Say no to tobacco',
will also be organised on the same day.
A magic show will bring down the curtains on the toy mela, in the
first week of June. Till then, the show is on from the time the
shop opens around 10-30 a.m. to 8-30 p.m. So, Crossword, anyone ?
