'Norms adhered to'
CHENNAI, JUNE 9 With reference to the news items published in The
Hindu on June 2, Mr. K.R. Purushotham, Managing Director, M/S.
Sathyanarayana Bros, writes to say:
``In both these articles/reports, it is alleged that during the
execution pipes developed leaks and the project was suspended.
The above statement is not correct for the reasons that the pipes
were manufactured and tested strictly at the factory to withstand
the test pressure as stipulated in the terms of contract and
passed before laying.
``It should also be understood pipes were partially laid and
checking of the pipeline leaks can be taken up only on completion
of the pipeline.
As such it is incorrect to mention that pipes developed leaks and
the project was suspended.
``The contractor who had undertaken the Veeranam project from its
inception had become a victim of political whims.
This is the verdict given by the High Court in the action taken
by the contractor, which is now subjudice.''
