Musharraf visit likely in first week of July
Pakistan's military ruler, Gen. Pervez
Musharraf, is expected to be in New Delhi in the first week of
July and will prefer to engage in a summit dialogue with the
Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, free from a ``rigid
structure''.
Chance to solve Ayodhya dispute lost: Advani
The Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani,
today said the Government lost a golden opportunity in 1990 to
solve the Ayodhya dispute when the then Prime Minister, Mr. V.P.
Singh, withdrew an ordinance issued to acquire the land around
the disputed structure and to refer the issue to the Supreme
Court.
Hurriyat meet inconclusive
The meeting of the All-Party Hurriyat
Conference executive convened to discuss the coming summit talks
between India and Pakistan today remained inconclusive.
Lyngdoh takes over as CEC
James Michael Lyngdoh today took over as
the Chief Election Commissioner of India, reiterating the
Election Commission's commitment to carry on efforts to
strengthen the electoral democratic system in the country.
Naga ceasefire may be extended
The four-year-old ceasefire in Nagaland may
get yet another extension for a year. Highly-placed sources in
the Government indicated that the ceasefire with the powerful
insurgent group, National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I-M),
could be extended to cover all Naga people in the North-East.
Vajpayee clears important files
The Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee,
recovering after a knee joint replacement surgery at the Breach
Candy hospital, today walked down the corridor of the hospital
for 20 minutes.
Musharraf starts consultations on summit
The Pakistan Chief Executive, Gen. Pervez
Musharraf, has begun consultations with a select group of
politicians and religious leaders on his coming summit meeting
with the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Mehdi Hasan longs to sing in India
The well-known Pakistani ghazal singer, Mr.
Mehdi Hasan, has thanked the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari
Vajpayee, for his ``get-well-soon'' message saying he looked
forward to resuming his performances in the two countries.
Benazir to visit India only after Musharraf
The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) today
clarified that the former Prime Minister and chairperson of the
party, Ms. Benazir Bhutto, intended to visit New Delhi after the
summit meeting between the Pakistan military ruler and the Chief
Executive, Gen. Pervez Musharraf and the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal
Behari Vajpayee.
India, Bangladesh hold border talks
Concerned about their border clashes, India
and Bangladesh are about to begin detailed discussions to settle
the disputed boundary issue.
