Three ex-Ministers released on bail

By Our Special Correspondent

SALEM, JULY 7. The former Ministers, Mr Ko.Si.Mani and Mr Veerapandi S.Arumugham, were enlarged on bail on Saturday. Prior to the release, Mr Mani was kept in the Salem Central Prison. Mr Arumugham was admitted to the Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam Government Medical College Hospital on health grounds.

Coming out of the Salem Central Prison, Mr Mani told presspersons that the Jayalalithaa Government had foisted ``false cases'' on the DMK leaders.

The 25-member standing committee constituted for the purpose of construction of mini-flyovers in Chennai consisted of the AIADMK members also. But the Jayalalithaa Government had singled out only the DMK members, and this itself was a clear indication about the motive of the Government, he said.

``Ultimately the truth will triumph; the authoritarian rule of Ms Jayalalithaa would go and the Karunanidhi rule would be restored, '' he said.

He said that in a prison which could accommodate only 2,000 persons, about 8,000 persons were kept. Though the prison authorities could not be blamed for this, the State Government ought to be held responsible for this unseemly act. Earlier, Mr Mani was greeted outside the prison by the Mayor, Dr G.Soodamani, the State Farmers' Wing president, Mr K.P.Ramalingam, east district DMK unit president, Mr S.R.Sivalingam, and others.
