Two arms dumps unearthed
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, JULY 7. In one of the biggest seizure of weapons in
the recent times, a team of Medak police officers unearthed two
arms dumps being maintained by the Jana Shakti group of naxalites
and seized 12 custommade weapons which included two carbines and
a sten gun. The weapons seized included four 8 mm rifles, three
Springfield rifles, two Carbines, one sten gun, one Mauser
pistol, one .38 revolver and 700 rounds of live ammunition.
The seizure was effected following information that the naxalites
of the Jana Shakti group were likely to hold a meeting in a
forest area near Pothamshetti pally village of Kulcharam mandal.
Police teams led by sub-inspectors N. Murali. Shankar Reddy,
Parthasarathy and Venugopal Reddy took up combing operations.
The police teams noticed that two persons waited near a hut for
over an hour and apparently, as their leader Degala Subhash did
not turn up, they were about to leave, when the police teams
closed in and nabbed them. They were subsequently identified as
Karre Chandram alias Seenu and Chakali Sailu alias Venkanna, both
working in the Manjira Squad Area Committee. The police also
recovered two short weapons from their possession.
Based on the information provided by the duo, the police teams
raided a place on the outskirts of Appajipalli village and
another house belonging to one Laxmaiah in Kukutlapalli village.
The two naxalites arrested were involved in several criminal
cases.
Later producing the weapons at a press conference, the Hyderabad
Range DIG, Mr. N. Sambasiva Rao, asserted that such a seizure was
possible only because the police teams were following every bit
of information about movement of naxalites.
The DIG appreciated the efforts of the police teams in
immediately acting upon the information and seizing the weapons.
The Medak SP, Mr. V.Venugopala Krishna, and the officers involved
in the raids were also present at the press conference.
