Token system launched at rail reservation complex

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, NOV. 30. The South Central Railway General Manager, Mr. N. Krithivasan, on Friday launched an electronic token display system at the Passenger Reservation Complex at Secunderabad Railway Station, in an effort to provide improved facilities for the rail users.

With the introduction of the token system, passengers wanting to book and reserve tickets need not stand in long queues in front of the counters. After taking the token from the token issuing counter, they can relax.

At the token issuing counter, a display board indicates the latest token number under transaction, giving a fair idea of the time by which a rail user is likely to get his turn. Inside the hall, there is a main display board showing four-digit token numbers and two-digit counter numbers. This can accommodate 40 tokens at any point of time.

Each window displays two token numbers at any given point of time and only two persons will be waiting, one transacting and the other waiting for his turn. In case a passenger is not present at the time of his turn, his token number will appear on another board, "skip token numbers board" and he will be given a second chance by skipping his number and keep it alive for 10 minutes.

Mr. Krithivasan also inaugurated air-conditioned dormitory facility with eight bed capacity, at the Secunderabad Station. The charges will be Rs. 125 for 12 hours and Rs. 250 for 24 hours. Mr. R. N. Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, was present.

Mr. Krithivasan later told press persons, that there were plans to establish a new complex on Bhoiguda side, set up a food plaza at Secunderabad station and improve waiting hall facilities at Nampally station.
