BRS: Govt. urged to approach SC
By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, FEB. 24. The Union Minister of State for Urban Affairs, Bandaru Dattatreya, advised the State Government to approach the Supreme Court with regard to the Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS) for the sake of the "innocent flat purchasers".

Participating in an `open discussion' on "Problems and redressel in urban development & housing construction activities" organised by the Confederation of A.P. Consumers Organisations here on Sunday, Mr. Dattatreya said municipal officials should supervise construction of multi-storied buildings instead of issuing notices and demolishing illegal structures after they are occupied by gullible flat owners.

The Union Minister regretted that several States including A.P. had not repealed the Urban Ceiling Acts. The Centre was thinking of coming out with a law making it compulsory for independent houses to have at least two trees and a rain water harvesting pit.

The Municipal Administration Secretary, M. Sahoo, wanted people not to purchase plots in private layouts wherever the developers do not offer proper facilities. Mayor T. Krishna Reddy, T. Krishna Murthy, Chairman, Federation of Residents Welfare Associations of Yellareddyguda and Yousufguda, M. Krishna Reddy, Chairman, Capco, and others spoke.
