By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JULY 30. A man allegedly trying to enter the high security Prime Minister's Office in South Block was detained after security personnel deployed at the entrance detected 10 live cartridges concealed in his belongings.

Well informed sources said the incident took place around 5-30 p.m. when the suspect was trying to enter the PMO apparently on the pretext of delivering some letters. He was asked to go through the X-ray scanners installed at the PMO entrance.

During the scanning, security personnel detected some metal pieces kept in his belongings. During search, the security personnel recovered 10 live cartridges of a revolver.

The discovery of bullets set alarm bells ringing and security in and around the PMO was beefed up immediately. The suspect was detained and taken to Parliament Street police station. The Intelligence Bureau and Special Cell officials were informed.

During joint interrogation, the suspect identified himself as Girija Singh. He said that he had come to submit a complaint regarding the problems being faced by his daughter.

The suspect said that he possessed a firearm licence. The police released him after verifying his statement.
