Karnataka
By Our Staff Correspondent
She was speaking after commissioning the Doordarshan Metro Low-Power Transmitter (LPT) and laying the foundation stone for an FM radio station here today. Ms. Swaraj said the Ministry had thought of narrowcasting to create awareness and educate the masses on various welfare schemes and give tips to farmers on agricultural practices adopted in the region. Programmes about local issues and schemes would be telecast to a limited population served by the LPTs. The FM station would be ready in two years. She urged the officials concerned to complete the work ahead of schedule. M.Y. Ghorpade, Karnataka Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, who presided over the programme, said people were not aware of the several schemes introduced by the Government. With the help of the media, both audio and visual, it would be possible to create awareness about them. "We have to make the best use of radio and TV," he said.
