Several trains cancelled on Hubli-Guntakal section

By Our Special Correspondent

HUBLI Sept. 30. The South-Central Railway appears to have goofed up again on the cancellation of trains in Hubli-Guntakal section because of the agitation.

Even as the Railway Action Committee had relented on its "rail roko" programme in Bellary to confine the agitation to stopping goods trains, the South-Central Railway has hit back with the cancellation of train services in the entire Hubli-Guntakal stretch via Gadag, Hospet, and Bellary for two days.

What is odd is the cavalier manner in which the South-Central Railway made known the cancellation of trains, with the announcement pertaining to today's services coming late in the evening, causing hardship to passengers.

The Hubli-Guntur passenger will skip the Hubli-Guntakal section and run between Guntur and Guntakal. The Hubli-Bangalore Hampi Express will skip the Hubli-Guntakal section and run between Guntakal and Bangalore.

The Hubli/Vasco-Vijayawada-Hubli/Vasco Amaravathi will not run on the Guntakal-Hubli section and run only between Vijayawada and Guntakal. As a result, the slip coach service from Kachiguda to Hubli hauled by the Dharamavaram Express has been cancelled.

The Kolhapur-Tirupati/Hyderabad and the return train will terminate at Hubli and Guntakal respectively to skip the Guntakal-Hubli sector.

On the Bellary Rayadurga section, the train services have been fully cancelled.

But reports from Bellary say that the Bellary Railway Action Committee has relented on its programme of agitation, by restricting the agitation to stopping only goods trains in the sector.

The agitation in Bellary, demanding the retention of the Tornagallu-Bellary-Guntakal section slated for transfer to Guntakal Division, in the Hubli Division of the South-Central Railway, is 50 days old.

The South-Central Railway, which has been accused of having taken steps to integrate the section within the Guntakal Division in terms of the orders issued by the Railway Board, eight months before the deadline, has been responding by cancelling trains.
