Relief for bus operators

SHIIMLA NOV. 22. Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to increase the number of days during which no special road tax is charged from the private bus operators who pay the tax regularly throughout the year. An official spokesman here said that the number of ``off days'' would be increased from 33 to 46, providing relief to the operators to the tune of Rs 1.50 crore annually.

The decision was a fellow up of the cabinet decision taken in this regard to encourage the operators to pay the special road tax on time. It would also take care of the problem of higher number of days required for maintenance of the vehicle.

He said the government had already decided to reduce the token tax on big buses from Rs 650 to Rs 500 per seat per annum to bring that on par with mini buses and reduced the SRT on 23 state highways from Rs 4.75 to Rs 3.84 per km per seat. - PTI
