Delhiite wins 'Miss India Universe 2003'

Mumbai Feb.1. Nineteen year-old Nikita Anand's concern for the elderly and her unflinching belief in forgiveness saw her winning the ``Miss India Universe 2003'' title beating 25 other competitors at the grand finale of the beauty pageant at Goregaon sports complex here.

Dressed in a green apparel, the Delhite's answer, ``To err is human, to forgive is divine. All of us make mistakes but letting go does not mean to regret but to grow and live in the future,'' saw her being crowned with the shimmering tiara.

The 22-year-old Ami Vashi from Mumbai was adjudged `Miss India World' for her reply, ``Loving and forgiving, giving and receiving are all paths to true peace and happiness''.

Another Mumbaikar to make the city proud was the 23-year old Shwetha Vijay whose belief that India's future lay in the potent combination of the country's tradition, culture and heritage saw her romping home the `Miss India Earth' title.

The crowning of the threesome was held amidst a rich tapestry of dance and fusion music and an awesome sparkle of fireworks. The show, choreographed by Hemant Trevedi and Anu Ahuja, kicked off with the 26 contestants breezing in, dressed in mesmerising colours designed by Neeta Lulla, accompanied by a visual of the contestants and their background. — PTI
