Uttar Pradesh
By Javed M. Ansari
NEW DELHI.AUG. 26. Even as the Samajwadi Party chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, staked his claim in Lucknow to form an alternative Government in Uttar Pradesh, his allies, the Congress, the Lok Dal and Kranti Dal led by the former Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh, are likely to call on the Uttar Pradesh Governor, Vishnu Kant Shastri, on Wednesday to reiterate their support to Mr. Yadav. Though the three parties will meet the Governor separately, they will essentially say the same thing. They are also expected to hand over the letters of support to the Governor. The Congress has decided to send a delegation headed by the AICC secretary in charge of the State, Subodh Kant Sahay. He will be accompanied by the UPCC chief, Jagdambica Pal, and the legislature party leader, Pramod Tewari. The Lok Dal president, Ajit Singh, flew to Lucknow this evening and he will also call on Mr. Shastri along with the leader of his legislature party.
