The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement "resolutely" condemning the Mumbai terror strikes and expressing the hope that those who had organised and carried out the attacks would be tracked down and "severely punished". "Together with the friendly Indian people Russia mourns the innocent victims of the heinous crime and express condolences to their families and friends," the statement said. The Foreign Ministry noted "striking similarities" between the Mumbai blasts and the recent terror attacks in Chechnya and Iraq, where also car bombs were used."The terrorist attacks in Mumbai emphasise once again the need for all members of the international community to close ranks in the fight against the global scourge of international terrorism," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
