Bush offered help to India

By Sridhar Krishnaswami

Washington AUG. 27. In his telephonic conversation with the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, the United States President, George W. Bush, not only condemned the terror attacks in Mumbai but also offered assistance to India for combating terrorism.

"The President told the Prime Minister that India has no stronger friend than the United States in combating terrorism and he offered assistance to the Prime Minister and to the people of India," the White House spokeswoman, Claire Buchan, told the media. Asked if the Prime Minister did take the offer and what the U.S. was doing for India, the spokeswoman said ``the President offered the assistance to the Prime Minister; the Prime Minister thanked him for that". Mr. Bush talked to Mr. Vajpayee on board Air Force One on his way to Minneapolis, Minnesota from Texas.
