Demand for partial opening of Thampanoor road

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug. 30. The Government has been urged to take steps to throw open the Overbridge-Thampanoor Railway Station road to traffic partially before Onam in order to alleviate the difficulties faced by the citizens.

Addressing a Press conference here today, the ward councillor, Thampanoor Satheesh, said the work on the culvert in front of the KTDC's Hotel Chaitram, which started eight months ago, was yet to be completed.

Charging the authorities concerned with ``culpable delay'' in completing the flood-control project in time, Mr. Satheesh said the work on the culvert at the Power House Road had come to a standstill months ago.

The width of the culvert at Thampanoor had been increased from 15 metres to 25 metres after the work started, but administrative sanction was yet to be received for the extra width, the councillor said.

Expressing doubts whether the ongoing work would help tackle the flooding problem at Thampanoor during monsoon, Mr. Satheesh charged the Railway with delay in starting work on the canal passing under the railway track.
