IBF censures Chinese pair

BANGALORE Sept. 2. The Chinese women's doubles pair Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen have been reprimanded by the International Badminton Federation's Disciplinary Committee, following an incident in their quarterfinal match of the World Badminton Championship held at Birmingham last month.

The World No. 9 pair was charged under section 4.5 of the Players Code of Conduct, with bringing the game into disrepute by not using their best efforts throughout their August1 quarterfinal match against compatriots and eventual World champions Gao Ling and Huang Sui.

The Committee also recommended that this type of situation be studied and advice be given to umpires and referees to swiftly and appropriately deal with similar instances of misconduct in future. — Our Special Correspondent
