IAS officer in custody, claim militants
Imphal
Sept. 2.
An underground militant group in Manipur today claimed that a `corrupt' senior IAS officer was in their custody who would be `tried' on September 8 and `punished'.
The Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL), which had launched `Operation New Kangleipak', the old name of Manipur, in the last few years to `cleanse' the Education Department, said in a statement that they had picked up the Revenue Commissioner, I.S. Laishram, for `questioning'.
The KKYL claimed that Laishram had allegedly accepted bribes from college teachers, promising them the UGC scale, when he was the Commissioner of the Education Department.
The KYKL statement also gave its e-mail address and invited `testimony' against the officer. PTI
