Dacoit gang strikes terror in village

KHAMMAM Sept. 2. A gang of dacoits struck terror in Kommugudem village under Palvancha police station limits by looting a house of an official of the NPDISCOM in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to the police six dacoits armed with clubs stormed into the house and relieved the inmates of the house including the wife of an electricity ADE, Ganapathy, of their ornaments, all worth Rs 56,000. They disconnected the phone before entering the house.

The son-in-law of the Discom employee was threatened and prevented from calling for the help of neighbours. They snatched away the `mangalasutram' of an inmate.

The dacoits were suspected to be members of the same gang, which indulged in a similar crime in Madhira area. Police investigation is on.

Meanwhile, the Khammam central crime station police arrested two dacoits and recovered a diesel auto and gold ornaments worth Rs 20,000 from their possession. The police said the accused - Sare Ramakrishna of Viragandham village in Vizianagaram district and Pedapogu Venkataramana of Guvvalagudem village in Khammam district - were suspected to have indulged in many offences reported in Khammam district.

They had allegedly struck at the house of a bank manager in Church compound area in the town recently. Some gold ornaments and valuables were found missing in the house. The auto-rickshaw seized from them was lifted from Khammam town ten days ago. The accused were remanded to judicial custody.

Feared drowned

A fisherman was feared drowned in the Godavari near Vinjaram in Kukunoor mandal on Monday. According to reports, J. Chandram of Erraboru village fell into the river from his country boat while fishing in the river. The Kunavaram police as well as the local fishermen are on the search for the missing person.

Boy electrocuted

A five-year-old boy, Ganesh was electrocuted as he came in contact with a live service wire in Repalagadda village in Kothagudem One Town police station limits. The family members of the victim staged a demonstration in front of the hospital protesting the delay in conducting the post mortem. The police registered a case and have started investigation.
