Promises to keep

Sir, — While laying the foundation for the Omkareshwar hydro-electric project in Madhya Pradesh, the Prime Minister emphasised his Government's resolve to ensure electric supply in every village by 2007, and power connection to every house by 2012 ( Aug. 31 ). Jawaharlal Nehru, an admirer of Robert Frost, had on his desk the lines "The woods are lovely, dark and deep but I have promises to keep... " After 56 years of Independence, we still live on promises and have not lost our faith in them.
