By no means soft

Sir, — Soft drinks are anything but soft on our body. It is reported by Dr. Clive Mccay of the Cornell University, U.S., that they can erode tooth enamel. This is because of the presence of phosphoric acid in them. They also contain melic acid, carbonic acid and erythorbic acid, as pointed out by Dr. Henry Diamond in "Fit for Life." The Joint Parliamentary Committee probing the cola affair should include recommendations for health standards and the printing of the colas' contents.

R.N. Lakhotia,
New Delhi
