Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Special Correspondent
The Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who held discussions with Mr. Naidu here on Tuesday on various issues relating to aviation needs of the State, agreed to the request for providing night- landing facilities at Tirupati airport and wanted the State Government to hand over 16 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India for installing the navigation equipment. According to Captain S N Reddy, Aviation Adviser to Andhra Pradesh Government, the Deccan Airways has proposed to operate flights to Tirupati in the night once the night-landing facilities were provided. Presently the Indian Airlines is operating one flight during daytime. He said the Minister also reviewed the progress of the night-landing facilities to be commissioned at Vijayawada airport. The State Government also sought the expansion of the runway at Visakhapatnam from the existing 6000 feet to 10,000 feet to enable the landing of bigger aircraft and commissioning of three aerobridges. A request has also been made for increasing the parking bays from the existing 10 to 14 at Begumpet airport and the aerobridges from four to six. Mr. Rudy also agreed to examine the request for permitting more flights of British Airways, Singapore, Malaysian and Qatar Airlines from Hyderabad. He handed over a letter on behalf of the AAI providing additional land on lease to the State Trading Corporation for expanding its cargo complex at Begumpet airport.
