TIRUPATI. Sept. 2. Security arrangements in the hill temple of Lord Venkateswarea came under a sharp focus at the review meeting held here on Tuesday by the A.P. Legislative Committee on Subordinate Legislations. The TTD top brass explained the panel the various measures it took in the recent times to beef up security in and around the temple complex to match the security all over the country in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on Parliament building, Aksaradham and Vaishnodevi temples. The committee was said to have advised the TTD to further fortify the approach to the temple complex by erecting some more barricades to prevent any possible sabotage attempt. The committee was informed that in addition to the security gadgets already procured and installed at all sensitive spots, some more were being secured and would be put in use before the annual `brahmothsavam' in the temple. The panel chairman, D. Sivaram, was said to have asked the TTD for a detailed report on the security arrangements. The panel was also said to have discussed with the TTD top brass the pros and cons continuing the election campaign and polling on Tirumala hills and received a negative response from the TTD on the ground that it would spoil the serene and spiritual atmosphere on the hills. Another import issue on which the committee focussed its attention was the reported shortage of steel implants (plates) in the TTD's Balaji Institute of Relief and Rehabilitation of the Disabled (BIRRD) here. The committee was looking into a reported complaint that shortage of plates was forcing the hospital even to cancel the dates fixed for surgeries eventually making patients come again for the same.
