By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Sept. 2. Election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Pondicherry is scheduled to be held on September 29.

According to a communication from the Election Commission the poll notification would be issued on September 11. While the last date for filing of nomination is September 18, the scrutiny of nominations is slated for September 19 and the last date for withdrawal is September 22.

The term of office of C.P. Tirunavukarasu (DMK) is due to expire on October 6.

In the 30-member Assembly, the Congress has 16 members. The TMC member, Theni C. Jayakumar, and the two Independents are supporting the Rangasamy government from outside.

On the opposition side the DMK has a strength of 7 members, while the AIADMK has two members and the BJP has one. M D R Ramachandran is the Speaker.

Now that the poll notification was issued, the race for party ticket in the Congress would now become intense. Already some functionaries started lobbying the high command for getting the ticket.
