HC notice to Tendulkar

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI SEPT. 2. The Madras High Court ordered notices to the cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and the Union Government on a public interest litigation petition challenging waiver of import duty on a Ferrari car presented to him by the Italian major Fiat.

The First Bench, comprising the Chief Justice B. Subhashan Reddy and Justice Prabha Sridevan, admitted the petition filed by one K.T. Kuppiah, and ordered notices, returnable in four weeks.

The `Ferrari 360 Modeno' car was presented to Tendulkar in May last year for his having equalled Sir Donald Bradman's record of 29 Test centuries.

It was airlifted to the Mumbai air cargo complex in the first week of this month.

The Centre waived the import duty to the tune of 120 per cent.
