Apparel park for West Bengal

By Our Staff Correspondent

KOLKATA SEPT. 2. The Union Textile Minister, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, today proposed the setting up of an apparel park in West Bengal provided requisite support was available from the State government. The Minister felt that Bengal could outsmart the rest of the country in apparel manufacturing and exports especially in regard to the proposed withdrawal of export quota by the U.S. after 2004.

Addressing members of the Merchant Chamber of Commerce here Mr. Hussain regretted the absence of apparel park in Bengal while even some not so significant centres were awarded the same long ago. "I will also try my best to include representations from Bengal in the Textile Committee under the Ministry".
