Adhikary among leaders

MUMBAI Sept. 3. Laxminarayan Adhikary was in joint lead with three others on Wednesday after two rounds in the World junior chess for visually impaired.

The Indian player defeated Germany's Merker in 50 moves and collected two points, putting him alongside joint leaders — top-seeded Nasobin (Russia), second-seeded San Jose (Spain) and Stolarcik (Poland) — in the 10-nation event currently underway in Pontivedra, Spain. The two-member Indian team is sponsored by GTL Limited.

The results (second round): Dalle (Blr) 1 lost to Nasobin (Rus) 2; San Jose (Esp) 2 bt Fernandez (Esp) 1; Lukasz (Pol) drew with Komissarov (Rus) 1.5; Stolarcik (Pol) bt Schutte (Ned) 1; Merker (Ger) 1 lost to Laxminarayan Adhikary (Ind) 2; Spanso (Esp) 1.5 drew with Williams (Eng) 1.5; P.
