This Day That Age
Pravda said in an editorial on the 2nd that the admission of Communist China to the United Nations was an absolute pre-condition for securing a right solution to the problems of preserving, and consolidating international security. The official Soviet news agency Tass, departing from normal practice, transmitted very early the text of the leading article to the foreign Press. Pravda editorials were not usually quoted until they had been broadcast by Moscow's Home Service radio, at 05.00 hours GMT. A warm message of greetings was sent to Peking (now Beijing) by Soviet Prime Minister M. Georgi Malenkov, and Foreign Minister M. Vyacheslav Molotov, on the occasion of the eighth anniversary of the victory against Japanese forces in the Second World War. The message was displayed on the front pages of Russian newspapers. In a message to Soviet Russia, Mao Tse Tung, Chinese Head of State, and Chou En-lai, Foreign Minister, declared that the Soviet Union had shown unbroken friendship since the foundation of the Chinese People's Republic.
