Sorcery: two men beaten to death

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD SEPT. 4. Two persons, including a former sarpanch, were allegedly beaten to death by irate residents of Gundekallur village under the Bichkunda police station limits late last night on the suspicion that they were practising witchcraft.

The Bichkunda police were informed about the murder this morning. The victims were identified as Pullugonda (50) and Bhoomaiah (45), former village sarpanch. According to the Bichkunda Circle Inspector, Md. Maqbool Ahmed, an eight-member group raided the houses of Pullugonda and Bhoomaiah.

The group, armed with sickles and iron rods, dragged the victims from their houses and brought them to the Hanuman temple in the village. The irate crowd, who accused them of practising "banamati", beat up the victims.

The villagers alleged that a child had died recently and several others complained of vomiting and nausea.
